River restoration in Oriental Mindoro pushes through

Members of the Inter-Agency Committee for Oriental Mindoro river restoration

After the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued an Administrative Order to rationalize dredging activities in the heavily-silted river channels in the province of Oriental Mindoro, members of the inter-agency committee held their first official meeting to push through with its initial programs and projects.

The department order which was issued by DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu aims to unify concerned agencies such as DENR, DPWH, DILG, DOTr and the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro to work together to restore the natural state and water flow of the heavily silted river systems and improve hydraulic capacity in order to address the issue of massive flooding in the province.

Gov. Bonz expressed his personal gratitude to Sec. Cimatu and to all the partner agencies for this great endeavor. He believed that this project will truly lessen and in time eliminate the flooding being experienced in most parts of the province especially during monsoon season. However as a counterpart, he will assure the bureau of his strict implementation of environmental laws and campaign against illegal activities that would harm the environment.
