12 June 2026, Victoria – Construction of the Php300M Bambanin-Merit Tourism Esplanade officially commenced in Victoria following its groundbreaking last 11 June.
As one of four (4) major infrastructures under the ‘Tourism Development Project’ of the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM), said project is expected to promote further economic progress in the province, particularly in four towns surrounding Naujan Lake.
Governor Humerlito “ Bonz” A. Dolor emphasized the significant transformation of Naujan Lake as a premier eco-tourism destination after a year.
He also announced a partnership between PGOM and various shipping lines such as Island Water, FastCat and StarLight for the proposed Naujan Lake Cruise project, a lake-tour experience leading to premier destinations such as the proposed Minglet Forest Eco-Tourism in Socorro, Tagbakin Falls Trek in Pola, and Montelago Hot Springs in Naujan.
Gob. Dolor also expressed gratitude to Senator Allan Peter Cayetano for his contribution to secure the funding for the project through the provision of Php100M, which will be used for its Phase 1 construction.
Likewise, Vice Governor Antonio S. Perez, Jr. reaffirmed the support of the 12th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on the promotion of tourism projects to boost the livelihood of local business owners and provide employment opportunities for Mindoreños.
Moreover, Victoria Mayor Richard Inciong thanked PGOM for continually implementing projects and programs for the enhancement of their town’s tourism sector.
Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Andres Isagani S. Lolo led the blessing and prayer for the project followed by the unveiling of project perspective and a time capsule-laying ceremony.
First Lady Hiyas Govinda Ramos Dolor, SP Board Member (BM) Roland Ruga, BM Ryan Arago, BM Ronalee Leachon, Pola Mayor Inah Alegre, Victoria Municipal Council, DPWH 1st District Assistant Engr. Albien M. Mahia, PGOM department heads and employees, Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel, and staff from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) witnessed said event.
Staff from the Provincial Tourism Office, headed by Provincial Tourism Officer Dhon Stepherson Calda, facilitated said groundbreaking ceremony.
