29 May 2026, Calapan City – The Mangyan Inter-Municipal Sportsfest officially kicked off as a friendly competition recognizing and celebrating the culture, talents, and valuable contributions of indigenous communities to the unique identity and continuing development of the province.
A total of 14 delegations of indigenous Mangyans from different municipalities in Oriental Mindoro gathered at the Sentrong Pangkabataan, Brgy. Sta. Isabel of this City for said three-day event held from 26-28 May.
Meanwhile, Governor Humerlito “Bonz” A. Dolor, along with First Lady Hiyas Govinda Ramos Dolor and Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) Board Member Lagtum A. Pasag, led the ceremonial toss that marked its formal opening.
In his message, Gov. Dolor emphasized the importance of enhancing the capabilities of Mangyan youth through sports activities.
He also shared various programs implemented by his administration for the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) sector, including a scholarship program for Mangyan college students and the continuation of the Zero Illiteracy and Innumeracy Program (ZIIP) in their communities that teaches them in basic reading, writing, and counting.
Moreover, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Pasag also expressed his full support for the promotion of programs that contribute to the welfare and development of his fellow IPs.
Mangyan Inter-Municipal Sportsfest was facilitated jointly by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) led by PSWD Officer Zarah C. Magboo and the Office of the Governor-Special Concerns Division (GO-SCD) headed by GO-SCD Chief Junielo Alcuran.
Furthermore, security and safety of the participants were also monitored during the event by the Philippine National Police (PNP), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), and the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
