26 May 2026, Calapan City – Five Mindoreño students from the Divine Word College of Calapan (DWCC) are beaming with pride after winning the Best Overall Project for Urban and Landscape Design at the recently concluded ‘The Filipino Times Global Student Competition 2026.’
Joemmel Magnaye, Harold De Guia, Harvih Iya Victoriano, Joanne Magnaye, and Arth Emmanuelle Guntan from the Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BS Arch) program, were recognized for their conceptual 25-Year Urban and Tourism Masterplan for Barangay Ibaba West and East in Calapan City, entitled ‘La Isla de Mina.’
The group’s project design and creative concept highlighted their aim to transform the said barangays into a sustainable and tourism-driven waterfront communities.
Particularly, their plan focused on the installation of bike lanes, green corridors, murals, public spaces, and flood-control infrastructure, which they believe are the solutions to the long-standing problems in said city.
Moreover, the team is hoping for their project to serve as an inspiration for future urban developments in Calapan City.
Their victory proved that even young people can make significant contributions in creating innovative ideas and environmental-friendly concepts toward more progressive and sustainable communities.
