01 May 2026, Pinamalayan – Reaching new heights of cultural and religious fervor, the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM) recently celebrated the Pandang Gitab Grand Santacruzan 2026 in Pinamalayan.
Various organizations and entities actively participated in the event showcasing their strong promotion of local culture and Christian devotion.
Beyond its religious roots and role in the tourism industry, the Grand Santacruzan is a vital component of the cultural identity of Oriental Mindoro.
This featured a colorful procession that commenced at Mabini St., Juan Morente Sr. Memorial Pilot School then traveled along Madrid Boulevard making its way to the St. Augustine Parish.
Central to the procession of 37 colorful arches, the sagalas wore detailed and vibrant traditional costumes representing biblical figures and holy women which served as symbolic representations of the history of Christianity and faith in the Philippines.
The community later on participated in a Eucharistic celebration led by His Excellency Bishop Moises M. Cuevas and a flower offering as a gesture of gratitude and commemoration of the Holy Cross, the central theme of the Santacruzan.
After the celebration, it also featured the traditional “Pasandal.”
Significantly, the following entities won the Best Arches: Reyna de las Flores of Municipal Government of Pinamalayan (John-Nette Banana Chips), preceded by Reyna de los Confesores of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-MIMAROPA Region, and Reyna del Cielo of Local Government of Pola.
While in Best Costume, Reyna de las Flores of Municipal Government of Pinamalayan again secured the first place, followed by Reyna de los Patriarcas of Teatro Bahaghari, and thirdly by Reyna de los Confesores of BFP-MIMAROPA.
This activity was organized through the Provincial Tourism Office of PGOM, led by Don Stepherson Calda in coordination with the local government of Pinamalayan.
