The Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM), through the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO), held a coordination meeting with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) on January 19, 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen institutional partnership on proposed 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 (IP) awareness initiatives in the province.

IPOPHL is the government agency mandated to administer and implement state policies on intellectual property, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, and other IP rights, and to promote the protection and commercialization of intellectual assets as drivers of innovation and economic development.

The coordination meeting was led on the part of the provincial government by Mr. Orlando B. Tizon, Provincial Cooperative Development Officer and Department Head of the Provincial Cooperative Development Office, with the participation of Mr. Romeo L. Paner, Ms. Michelle Catly, and Ms. Maricris Capino of PCDO.

Representing IPOPHL were 𝗠𝗦. 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗝. 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗶, Information Officer II of the Intellectual Property Management and Commercialization Division – Documentation, Information Technology Transfer Bureau (IMPCD-DITTB), and Ms. Arjoyce G. Coronacion, IP Field Operations Specialist of the Intellectual Property Satellite Office – MIMAROPA (IPSO-MIMAROPA).

The discussion focused on possible areas of collaboration aimed at promoting intellectual property awareness among local government units (LGUs), cooperatives, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), producers, and the youth in Oriental Mindoro.

During the meeting, IPOPHL presented its proposed IP awareness framework, while PCDO shared relevant provincial programs and sectoral priorities. The exchange highlighted the shared commitment of both institutions to support innovation, protect local products and creative outputs, and advance inclusive local economic development, subject to further coordination and appropriate approvals.

The proposed collaboration is consistent with the development agenda of Governor Humerlito “Bonz’ Dolor, particularly his advocacy for empowering local enterprises, strengthening product identity, and promoting innovation as key pillars of sustainable growth in Oriental Mindoro.

According to Tizon, the January 19, 2026 coordination meeting marked an important step in strengthening the partnership between IPOPHL and the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro, ensuring that any future IP-related initiatives will be responsive to local needs and aligned with existing provincial programs.

Further discussions are expected as both institutions continue to refine potential areas of cooperation.
