Oriental Mindoro Agricultural Fiesta – A day of Tribute for the Province’ Farmers and Fisherfolks

Thousands of farmers, fisherfolks and those in the agricultural sector joined and celebrated the Oriental Mindoro Agricultural Fiesta at the Provincial Demo Farm, Victoria, as part of the activities for the  Fiesta MaHal TaNa: The 75th Founding Anniversary of the province.

Governor Humerlito “Bonz” A. Dolor and Vice Governor Antonio S. Perez, Jr., led the ribbon cutting ceremony symbolizing the commencement of the event followed by a lechon parade.

Provincial Agriculturist Christine M. Pine emphasized that the day was specifically dedicated to farmers and fisherfolks of Oriental Mindoro to show the province’s appreciation in the farmers and fisherfolks’ vital contribution in the  province’s rich agricultural and fishery products.

Governor Bonz also thanked the local governments for their cooperation in the conduct of the Agri-Fiesta and in celebrating Fiesta MaHal TaNa: The 75th Founding Anniversary of Oriental Mindoro. He also stressed the efforts of the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM) to uplift the livelihood of Mindoro farmers and fisherfolks.

Moreover, a signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Provincial Government represented by Governor Bonz, and the National Food Authority (NFA) through NFA OIC Regional Manager Me-Anne C. Villaflor was highlighted in the event.

Under said MOA, NFA is set to purchase palay from farmers at P23 pesos per kilo and PGOM will pay the rent of the warehouse for palay storage.

Vice Governor Perez, along with members of the Provincial Council and various departments of PGOM expressed their  support for the agri-sector to further uplift the livelihood of farmers and fisherfolks. 

Meanwhile, part of the celebration were competitions and  games:  Amazing Race; Farmers and Fishermen’s Kitchen cooking competition; Pinaka – (biggest, longest, heaviest) products; videoke challenge; and selection of the Best Performing LGU, which were actively participated by representatives from various LGUs.
