Staff from various offices of the Capitol and satellite hospitals of the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM) participated in the the simultaneous earthquake drill on 03 November.
Under the directive of Governor Humerlito ‘Bonz’ A. Dolor, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO),headed by PDRRM Officer Vinscent B. Gahol, led the activity in response to the consecutive earthquakes experienced in different parts of the country.
Prior to the conduct of the said activity, PDRRMO led a short briefing and orientation to the PGOM staff during flag ceremony regarding the six phases of Earthquake Drill, which were followed during the actual conduct.
In the first phase at exactly 2:00 PM, a sound from the alarm rang signalling the beginning of the activity.
Employees immediately proceeded to the second phase (response) through the execution of “Duck, Cover, and Hold” to protect the body from falling objects.
Afterwards, participants proceeded to the third phase (evacuation) through predetermined routes when the one minute assumed shaking stopped.
To fullfill the fourth phase (assembly), employees formed groups to the safe area, where safety officers performed the fifth phase (headcount).
PDRRMO ended the sixth phase of the drill through evaluation, where encountered challenges and good pratices were identified.
Through the activity, PGOM staff were able to learn the proper execution of measures and appropriate evacuation procedures to ensure safety during an earthquake.
Governor Dolor personally participated in the drilll, demonstrating his full support and leadership in promoting disaster preparedness among PGOM personnel.
